Poron® (LDU2000) Urethane Sponge

PORON® Cellular Urethane foams offer a broad range of design solutions for gasketing, sealing and energy absorption.  Low compression set and low outgassing features, make these foams ideal for applications in telecommunications, automotive, electronic, and other industrial devices.

PORON urethanes are flexible, high density, microcellular products, offering design engineers many outstanding features. PORON products maintain excellent resistance to compression set (collapse), exhibit high resiliency, good vibration damping and impact absorption.  Parts made from PORON urethanes continue to perform after constant and repeated deflection. Components will not loosen, and gasketing integrity will be maintained.

Through a unique manufacturing process, PORON cellular urethanes can be cast to tight tolerances and in precise variations of firmness and internal strength.  These materials are supplied in thickness from 0.012" to 0.500" (0.43mm to 12.7mm) and are easily die cut and fabricated to shape. Many PORON urethanes are conformable and thin for space constrained applications.

KEY FEATURES / BENEFITS

  • Excellent Compression Set Resistance which enables durable, long-term performance for gasketing, sealing, and cushioning.
  • Low-outgassing and non-fogging, containing no plasticizers or residual chemicals to contaminate the device. The material will Not Become Brittle and Crumble and is Non-Corrosive to Metal
  • Inherently Flame Retardant without the use of additives. Many of the materials meet flammability requirements of UL HBF and MVSS 302
  • Engineered urethane formulations offering a wide modulus range - 2-90 psi @ 25% deflection – for more design versatility requirements.
  • Excellent Performance Over Broad Temperature Range Temperature (-40oC to 90oC).
  • Good Chemical Resistance
  • Easy to fabricate, die-cuts cleanly, and readily accepts adhesive without surface preparation. Available in Colors

Gasketing Solutions

Underwriters Laboratory has recognized PORON cellular urethane materials as acceptable gasketing for electrical enclosures. These foam products carry UL recognition, JMST2, for use as a gasket material in complete equipment. The recognition meets the gasketing requirements of safety standards UL50 and UL508. PORON 4701-30, 4701-40 and 4701-50 grades are ideal solutions for enclosure gasketing applications. For further information on working with PORON materials for gasketing solutions, refer to the Sealing and Gasketing Design Guide (pdf)

  • 4701-30 - Very soft, easily compressed for use where flexibility is a key requirement. Available in thickness ranges from .021" to .500" (.53 mm to 12.7 mm).
  • 4701-40 - Soft material for a wide variety of applications. Available in thickness ranges from .031" to .500" (.79 mm to 12.7 mm).
  • 4701-41 - Soft, enhanced sealability material offering greater closed-cell content for demanding vacuum sealing applications or low closure-force requirements.
  • 4701-50 - Firm material used for managing high energy impact with gasketing needs.
  • 4701-60 - Very firm material used for energy management solutions for enclosure gasketing applications.

Energy Management Solutions

The outstanding shock absorption qualities of PORON cellular urethanes help LCD components survive energy impact during drop testing. For automotive applications, the materials offer design solutions for combating the effects of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). PORON grades 4701-30, 4701-40, 4701-50 and 4701-60 are ideal solutions for enclosure gasketing applications. For further information on working with PORON materials for energy management, refer to the Shock Control Design Guide (pdf)
