Groove Gasket Products |
For applications that require a gasket to fit into a groove, the products available here all offer EMC performance, in addition the Orientated wires in Silicone, Self terminating knitted wire mesh, Conductive Elastomers & Form in Place products offer varying amounts of environmental sealing. |
Kemtron also offer non-conductive environmental seals, these are available in a comprehensive range of profiles & materials to suit the most demanding conditions - see the Environmental Products section. |

Knitted wire mesh This material is particularly suited for small sections, EMP applications and where there is infrequent access. This product is ideal for use on uneven surfaces, eg., sheet metal fabrications, castings etc. The product consists entirely of knitted wire mesh formed to the cross sections shown. It can be supplied in continuous lengths, cut to length, or fabricated into gaskets to your specific requirements by spot welding and stitching. |

Knitted wire mesh over an elastomer core These products require a low closing force which makes them ideal for use in situations where compression on the gasket is released and reapplied frequently, as in the case of enclosure doors and inspection panels. This property also makes it ideal for gasketing irregular surfaces as may be found on castings and sheet metal fabrications. Whilst it is not recommended as a full environmental seal it does offer a limited seal against dust. The product consists of two layers of wire mesh knitted over an elastomer core. More layers may be applied depending upon the application of the finished item and the degree of shielding required. e.g. 7 layers of TCS for EMP. |

Knitted wire mesh over an elastomer core with an environmental seal Provides a full environmental and RFI/EMI seal when clamped between two flat surfaces. It is ideal for use in situations where repeated opening and closing operations are necessary due to its resiliency and the low closing force required for the product to be effective. The product consists of knitted wire mesh bonded to a silicone sponge or neoprene sponge carrier. It is supplied in lengths up to 10 metres or as finished gaskets of any size, to customer specifications. It is possible to die cut the sponge to very precise dimensions. |

Orientated wires in silicone A flat silicone gasket material, solid or sponge, embedded with wires orientated perpendicular to its surface. The material has a wire density of 900 per square 25.4 mm. which gives an excellent EMI screen over a wide spectrum of frequencies. It has the additional property of providing full environmental protection. Fluorosilicone is available for use in environments where fuel oils and other contaminates are present. |

Conductive elastomers Conductive elastomers are fully post cured silicones or fluorosilicones loaded with highly conductive particles providing low contact resistance between mating surfaces. The various fillers are designed to ensure galvanic compatibility between the surfaces. Extruded profiles are available in continuous lengths or fabricated to your requirements. For use where space is limited and high shielding performance is required with the benefit of an environmental seal. Fluorosilicone is offered where resistance to fuel contamination is needed and various metallic fillers to ensure galvanic compatibility with mating surfaces. |

Form in place gaskets (pdf) A form in place conductive elastomer gasket that is automatically dispensed directly on to customers hardware or enclosures via a pressurised fluid dispensing system on a numerically controlled XYZ table. The materials are thixotropic by nature therefore minimising slump when deposited, bead width to height ratio will generally be 60/40 with bead widths as small as 0.65mm up to a maximum of 2mm. Tool or sets up costs are kept low due to simple computer programming and accurate repeatability is guaranteed. Suited to applications where small, intricate gasket profiles are required such as on multi compartment labyrinth housings with minimum gasket land area where traditional larger types of gasket are not suitable. This process also negates the assemble costs associated with traditional gaskets as the form in place gasket becomes an integral part of the housing or enclosure. The process is suitable for depositing on both metal and metallized plastic componets/housing. As well as providing an excellent EMI shield >90db at 100MHz, form in place also gives a good environmental seal against dust and moisture. Non Conductive compounds are also available for enviromental sealing requirements. |
