| Oriented wires in silicone is a good solution for both EMC and Environmental sealing in one product. However to remain a cost effective product, for larger gaskets it is usually necessary to produce them from strips of material that are fabricated into the finished shape. Besides reducing the amount of material discarded from the centre of the gasket, it also allows the material to be made into virtually any shape desired. Because the wires forming the EMC contact portion of the gasket are running vertically though the material, there is no need for a conductive joint where two mating faces meet, simply sealing with silicone to form a waterproof seal is all that is required. Smaller gaskets, however, can still be punched in one operation, keeping production costs at a minimum. Self-adhesive backing can also be applied to one side of the material to facilitate the placement of the gasket during assembly. Dimensional Tolerances: Linear +/- 0.8mm, Hole Centres +/- 0.4mm. |

| It is important that this material is not over compressed, and if the design of the equipment does not allow for any mechanical method of preventing over compression, it is possible for the gasket to be fitted with built-in compression limiters. These can take two forms: 1) Metal stops fitted to either side of the fixing holes, or 2) Metal collars fitted into each fixing hole. See the examples shown below. |
